Women’s Fiction
With this latest offering by the talented Sherryl
Woods, readers are introduced to Hannah Matthews, a
single mom, PR executive, and breast cancer survivor.
Living in New York City with her daughter in college in
California, she has just returned to her childhood home
in Florida, the tiny Seaview Key island to talk her
elderly grandmother into selling the family inn.
Hannah’s feisty eighty-five year old grandmother has
other ideas, especially since her only child, Hannah’s
mother, has recently died from breast cancer. With
Hannah also just finishing chemotherapy, Grandma Jenny
is determined to make the inn a success, a legacy.
Complicating all of this is the appearance of Hannah’s
high school crush, handsome orthopedic surgeon, Luke.
Trying to recuperate from a major leg injury from a
roadside bomb while serving in Iraq he has joined the
ranks of the walking wounded after his wife tells him,
via email, that she is having an affair with his
business partner and wants a divorce. With this
occurring just before his injury he has buried his
feelings during rehab. At discharge Luke retreats to the
best place he knows of to rest—Seaview Key—and
unexpectedly encounters Hannah. Sparks fly as they
try and work out their developing relationship.
On top of all this is the announcement from Hannah’s
daughter that she is unexpectedly pregnant and is
dropping out of college. Could it get any more
complicated?
This is a terrific novel written in true Sherryl Woods
form with excellent character development, a careful
view of each generations’ angst, and a top-notch romance
for both Hannah and her daughter. Woods’ fans will enjoy
this one and are likely to find themselves reading this
book far into the night.
