Christian Fiction
Marcus Junius Vitalis, veteran soldier, faithful to
the Roman emperor was summoned by the Emperor Nero after
he had returned from a tour. He is amazed to discover
that the Emperor Nero is interested in discovering more
about the sect known as the “Christians” and he is given
the job of interrogating an ardent follower and leader
of the sect.
The captured leader is none other than Peter, the
fisherman who had denied Jesus three times. Since
Vitalis holds a high regard for everything Roman, he is
determined to do everything in his power to bring down
the sect and its leaders who are wrecking havoc with
Roman rule. But as he talks to Peter and listens to the
stories he tells, he gets more and more curious about
this Jesus and the faith he proclaimed while on earth.
Will Vitalis realize the true meaning of Christianity
and who Jesus really was?
Set before the Great Fire that burned down Rome, this
novel expounds Peter’s last days in a filthy prison in
Rome. He is brought before the Emperor Nero and he is
questioned by the General Vitalis. Written in first
person point of view of the General, this book was a
quick and exciting read. Vitalis’ journey from being
agnostic to the Christian faith to becoming a firm
believer is done so artfully and over time. Known
historic events are also deftly entwined into the story
telling, giving the readers a feeling of authenticity.
Originally written in Spanish, I am very thankful that
this book was translated to English. Reading this novel
makes the many stories and accounts in the Bible about
Peter come alive.
