Lady Mathilde and her sister
Lady Giselle know they need help to keep their cousin, Roald,
from disputing their father’s will. Lady Mathilde has no
doubts that he will come to claim their home and lands, and
it can only lead to disaster and pain for all of them at
Ecclesford. They have heard of a knight staying close by who
may be the answer to their needs, if they can only convince
him to help them.
Sir Henry is not surprised
to be awakened by strange women in his room; after all he’s
been chased by woman for years. Even so, he has long
since tired of this and having one strikingly beautiful woman
along with one rather plain one in his room can only lead to
trouble. Sir Henry is known for both his ability on the
battlefield and in bed. Now, he finds himself being offered a
large sum of money in exchange for his commanding their
men-at-arms and preparing them for battle against a man he has
already meet and dislikes. As he learns more of their
troubles, he decides he must help his honor, being a knight
demands it.
Soon Henry finds himself
strangely drawn to Mathilde who shows such strength and
determination. At the same time he desires the more beautiful
Giselle as a possible wife. It is Mathilde though who
must put her heart and deepest desires on the line to trust
this man. Mathilde finds herself just as drawn to the knight,
but secrets from the past still haunt her. Can Sir Henry see
beyond the face Mathilde shows the world to see the beauty and
pain hidden within? As invaders draw ever closer can they succeed
against an enemy determined to win at any cost?
HERS TO COMMAND is book four
in Ms. Moore’s “Brothers-in-Arms” series following BRIDE
OF LOCHBARR (Aug 04), LORD OF DUNKEATHE (Feb. 05), and THE
UNWILLING BRIDE (Oct 05). Even though it is part of this
series and I for
one am
eager to read the previous books, HERS TO COMMAND, does fine
as a stand-alone read. I read this story in one day and am
eager to read more from Ms. Moore. The characters were great,
with a plot that kept the story moving along and villains you love to
hate. The setting of 1243
England
is written very well and fans of this era will
certainly be pleased with the story. Ms. Moore is an author
fans of historical romances need to keep an eye on, she’s
written many stories that are bound to be keepers and HERS TO
COMMAND is no exception. I highly recommend this one to all.
