Karen MacInerney successfully introduces a highly
entertaining new series with HOWLING AT THE MOON: TALES
OF AN URBAN WEREWOLF. When werewolf Sophie Garou
receives a threatening package from an unknown enemy and
her mother is accused of murder, Sophie embarks on the
adventure of a lifetime. Denying her nature is a big
part of Sophie’s existence, and wolfsbane tea is one of
her primary tools for fitting in. Her human boyfriend
has no idea about Sophie’s “hairy” nature, and Sophie is
determined to keep it that way. When Sophie’s mother is
arrested and Sophie begins to investigate the crime,
Sophie stumbles across a handsome werewolf investigating
a different set of crimes. The attraction flares
immediately, but Sophie is determined to stay true to
her much less complicated boyfriend. Proving her
mother’s innocence is Sophie’s main goal, and she is not
above using her werewolf powers to get the job done, but
the cost may be more than Sophie can bear.
Karen MacInerney’s HOWLING AT THE MOON is a breath of
fresh air. Readers will love the whimsical feel of the
novel, the witty main character who tells of her own
adventures from her own point of view, and the
unexpected pitfalls Sophie narrowly escapes. (Who would
have known that shaving your legs would impact a
werewolf’s appearance so significantly?) Ms. MacInerney
successfully creates an Austin, Texas, feel to the
novel, and readers will know exactly what it means to
“Keep Austin Weird.” The problems Sophie faces are
unexpected, and the ending is purposefully crafted leave
readers impatient for the next Sophie Garou adventure.
Will Sophie come into contact with the rivaling
werewolves in nearby Houston and other big cities, or
will she successfully stay under their radar for a while
longer? HOWLING AT THE MOON: TALE OF AN URBAN WEREWOLF
is fast-paced, entertaining, and a must-read for both
mystery and paranormal fans!
