Generations of Seabroooke's have always served the
Hollinworth family and taken care of their big estate.
And the current Seabrooke serving the family is Rebecca.
She has been given the administrative job of ensuring
the upkeep of the home and making it a successful
historic home.
Soon Rebecca comes upon a stack of letters that records
the history and events surrounding the house. Reading
through the letters with Quentin Hollinworth, she
discovers a legacy that she has never known before. She
discovers how her own past is entwined with the
Hollinworth history more deeply and strongly than she
had ever imagined. Along the way she has to nurture her
relationship with God and her new relationship with
Quentin, and appease Lady Elise, Quentin's rich mother,
who does not like her dating her son.
Set in England, this novel is the story of one woman's
journey of discovery. Alternating between present day
and historic events and letters, the book provides two
novels in one: one following Rebecca as she reads about
the ancestors through the letters and one about the
ancestors themselves. The story started off slow and it
took a while to get into it as the characters and plot
line was introduced. But once past the first chapter,
the story picks up and becomes riveting. The characters
were well developed and Rebecca is somebody that the
readers can relate to. Lady Elise's snobby behaviour is
portrayed very well throughout the novel were Rebecca is
conversing with her, creating an environment much like
the Middle Ages. I would recommend this heartwarming
book to both those who like history and contemporary
fiction since it includes both.
