Marcee Robbens is the maid of honor at her best
friend’s wedding and like always, she’s just a little
melancholy about he whole process. When she
impulsively decides to “pick up” a sexy wedding guest
for a one night stand, they have a sizzling overnight
encounter that is unforgettable. While Marcee might
long for happily ever after and Sam McKelvey is more
than a little nervous about this night, they separate
in the morning, relatively clear that they will never
see each other again.
Now Sam, a police detective, the widowed father of a
teenage daughter, is getting ready to leave Chicago
for small town life in Ellwood. He does not need the
complication of a relationship with a career woman in
Chicago. Marcee is a successful accountant and while
she’s beautiful and sexy, he is not interested. At
least this is what he tries to tell himself as he
cannot get Marcee out of his mind.
Many months pass and Sam and his daughter settle in
Ellwood. Meanwhile, Marcee ends up back in the small
town where she unhappily grew up, agreeing to take
care of her teenage brother. That small town is
Ellwood and this couple is shocked when they realize
they now live next door to each other. The story goes
on from there.
Predictably, Sam’s daughter and Marcee’s brother have
a growing relationship. All of them are dealing with
small town life and the nuances of everyone knowing
your business. I thought the teenagers in this novel
were especially well drawn and realistic. The concept
being different than you look is captured beautifully
with these adolescents. The author obviously knows
this age group.
This is a delightful romp of a book with excellent
plot development, funny, interesting characters. The
dialogue is especially good. This is a good one to
take to the beach!
