LIBERTY, Kimberly Iverson's unique
tale of a Celtic woman forced into slavery to repay her
father's taxes, is a fascinating journey into the past.
Rhyddes, renamed Libertas when she is forced to become a
gladiatrix-slave, is wild in spirit and suffers horribly
until she is purchased by Jamil, a trainer of
gladiators. Aquila, a nobleman, is immediately attracted
to Libertas's attractive frame and fierce spirit, and he
repeatedly attempts to purchase her from her owner.
Despite her status as a slave, Aquila falls in love with
Libertas and vows to claim her as his own.
At first, Libertas is both attracted and repelled by
Aquila's attentions, but soon she finds herself growing
to love and respect the nobleman. Unfortunately for them
both, Aquila's father, a high ranking official, is
determined to see Aquila wedded to a senator's daughter
and the threatening Libertas killed in the gladiator's
arena.
A Romeo-and-Juliet-tale set in an ancient era, LIBERTY
is fascinating, breathtaking, and exceptionally written.
By far the most original tale I have read in quite some
time, the novel kept me hooked until the very last page.
Exciting, gut-wrenching, and fast-paced, LIBERTY is a
must-read.
