Dane Harley isn’t sure what returning for her ten year high school reunion will mean. What she does know is she wants to reunite with her best friend, Roxy Jordan, and she’d like to make amends to her one true love, John Stratton. Ten years ago Dane was a gothic kid from the wrong side of town, with no true family, and no idea where she was heading. She was also in love with John, the son of a rich family who was being pulled down by his feelings for Dane, or so she felt. So after graduation Dane wrote John a “Dear John” letter and left town, leaving no clues to her whereabouts for anyone.
Now, Dane is a social worker, all grown up and working to place foster kids in good homes. She’s also wondering if it’s possible to rekindle the love she’s never been able to forget with John. On a dare she calls him, however instead of John a young woman answers the phone. Soon Dane finds herself in John’s home, with a pregnant woman, and Mrs. Stratton, a woman too nice to hate.
What hurts the most is knowing that John was able to move on, when she wasn’t. When John shows up on her doorstep, things get complicated. Is love lost ever able to be reclaimed, or is it better to move on?
DEAR JOHN is a fun quick read that will leave readers smiling and remembering that high school romance. The characters are engaging, although this story is fast, it doesn’t feel short or rushed. I do wish it had lasted longer because I'd liked to have seen more from the main characters. Overall it was a good read.
