China Nethercott is on her way home to Nethercott
Castle when she encounters the ghost of a Roman
centurion. China doubts him at first, but with the icy
coldness surrounding the centurion, and having had a
father who believed in ghosts with all his heart, and an
older sister who has had a ghostly encounter of her own,
China comes to accept him. The ghost tells her that he
is under a curse and that she must help him save
Alexander, Lord Braddock, his last descendant. Quintus
Valerius's curse extends to the eldest male descendants
of his line of each generation--they would either die or
go mad on the fifth of September of their thirtieth
year. Quintus tells her that the curse on Alexander may
be enacted by someone who feels betrayed by Alexander.
If the curse is not stopped, broken with Alexander,
Quintus's soul will be damned for all eternity. Quintus
arranges for Alexander to be injured in a cave-in at the
local Roman ruins so China can take him back to
Nethercott Castle and guard him until September 5th
passes...only later does China learn that her fate is
bound with Alexander's, and if the curse is not broken,
her fate is doomed as well...China will try to keep
Alexander safe, but she does not count on the unexpected
houseguests, one with hatred for Alexander, or on
unrequited love gone bad, a highwayman in the district,
or on the ancient evil stalking Nethercott Castle...as
China and Alexander fall in love, the weeks pass quickly
and September 5th arrives all too soon...
KINDRED SPIRITS is an entertaining, page-turning Regency
historical with the perfect blend of thrills, chills,
ghosts, and sensuality. I thoroughly enjoyed KINDRED
SPIRITS and could not put it down until I found out
Alexander's fate. The moors setting adds a delicious
atmosphere of foreboding and dread to the traditional
Regency house party. The chemistry between China and
Alexander sizzles, and China is no meek Regency miss and
she grasps at her chance for love and does not let go.
China is a refreshingly direct and honest heroine
determined to protect Alexander from the moment Quintus
commissioned her to defend his descendant. KINDRED
SPIRITS is the second book in the Nethercott tales--LOST
IN SHADOW is the first and is Jade's story. KINDRED
SPIRITS is a delightful addition to any historical
romance fan's tbr!
