Jeremiah MacNaught hates a thief. It doesn't matter
that the cross-dressing thieves only strike once a year,
during Mardi Gras, or that they take embarrassingly
small amounts of money during their bank robberies,
while simultaneously passing out fashion advice. They've
hit his banks for four years and Mac has had enough. The
FBI has bigger problems and the New Orleans Chief of
Police has his hands full during Mardi Gras so Mac
decides to go to New Orleans to catch the criminals
himself. Of course, Mac has a hunch that the mastermind
behind the robberies is none other than Nessa Dahl -
Assistant Manager of one of the bank branches. He's
watched her on the surveillance cameras and, although
she's enchanting and Mac seems almost obsessed with her,
it won't stand in his way of sending her to the slammer
as soon as he can prove she's behind the robberies.
Ionessa Dahl has paid her dues to "That Man" at "That
Bank" and it seems like she's finally going to get that
long overdue promotion to Bank Manager. One stupid
mistake years ago has held her back but she's done
everything by the books every day since and there's
never been another mistake. Nessa has even tolerated "Stephabeast"
taking credit for her hard work but as soon as Stephanie
says to prepare the extra office, Nessa is sure she's
finally moving up. But her hopes are dashed when she
discovers that the office isn't for her but for a pushy
insurance investigator here to catch the "Beaded
Bandits". She's assigned to Jeremiah as his assistant
since she knows everyone in town and most of the bank's
employees who've been hit by the robbers. Nessa is
immediately attracted to the hunky but scarred
investigator and things start to get really complicated
when she discovers the feeling is mutual.
Can Nessa and Mac learn to believe in each other
especially when the true identities of the bank robbers
is revealed to the entire city?
I read this entire book in one sitting and simply didn't
want the story to end. The main characters are engaging
and well developed and all the supporting characters
from the "Dahl House" are truly memorable. The dialog is
quick and there are so many sexy, exciting scenes: the
alley, the staircase, the utility room, and most
especially the vault! Not just another cookie-cutter
romance but a delightful unique modern day love story
with excitement on every page. Very well crafted book!
