With her newest release, Lauren Dane brings the
readers the next installment of the Witches Knot series,
CELEBRATION FOR THE DEAD. We get to experience Melanie
“Minx” Rodriguez and Conner Bell’s story.
Connor is a vampire, he is a part of a faction known as
the Oathkeepers. In simplistic terms, he part of the
vampire “police”, keeping the Oathbreakers under
control. In a world where the average person does not
know that supernatural things truly exist, it is part of
his job to make sure they are protected and not used as
prey to any rogue vampire.
Minx is a part of a group that has also been hunting
vampires for a long time. She was attacked when she was
younger, and has made it her mission in life to kill as
many vampires as she can. It has only been recently
though, that she has learned that there are “good”
vampires and “bad” ones. With the help of the Chavez
witches in the previous 4 books in this series, Connor
and Minx set out to hunt and track Perdue – the
villainous vampire from the previous story.
Unfortunately, tangled in this hunt is the fact that
Connor was not looking for, nor ready for a relationship
(or love). He must win Minx’s trust back in order to
gain her love.
I have to say, this is probably the weakest installment
of this series so far. I have truly enjoyed all of the
previous stories leading up to this one, but was
disappointed with CELEBRATION FOR THE DEAD. The writing
was a bit choppy and rushed, and the plot way
underdeveloped. There were a lot of good sex scenes, and
if you are looking for a book strictly with that
criteria in mind, then you shouldn’t be disappointed.
Considering the preceding books went deeper than just
the sex, I was expecting more and did not find it here.
