Paranormal Romance
What an absolutely fabulous new series!!!! I was
completely enthralled with Deborah Cooke’s new
dragonfire book KISS OF FIRE. There have been so many
new paranormal books and series released lately that I
really did not know if I was going to enjoy this one. I
have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
Sara Keegan is an accountant who recently resettled
herself to Ann Arbor in order to take over the running
of her Aunt’s mystic shop. With the recent deaths of her
parents and aunt, there is nothing much to hold her
anywhere. She is a strong lead female character,
practical and interesting to follow. Sarah does not
really believe in the supernatural, but is open minded
enough to not be scared away until she understands what
she sees. Because she just KNOWS that the person who
just tried to kill her was NOT sent away by a dragon. No
sir-ee, that was definitely NOT a dragon who scared away
the would-be murderer.
Quinn Tyrell has been a loner almost all of his life. He
has never trusted any of his own kind, the PYR
(dragons). He has been betrayed too many times and does
not know whom to believe in, so he will not trust anyone
but himself. When he meets up with Sara, he is struck by
the firestorm (the PYR’s mating sign) and knows that she
is the one for him. It is not only fate and omens which
bring these two together but a true partnership and
understanding of the other, that makes their love real.
Sparks DO fly when they first meet, literally,
figuratively and permanently.
I really liked the world and character building of this
book. The plot and sub plots, Sara and Quinn and the
secondary characters were all well thought out and
constructed. I felt that although I know there are more
books coming in this series, this story was fully
developed and I do not have to wait for another book to
feel fulfilled. So many of the series today are cliff
hangers or one LONG story sold as multiple books as
opposed to a self contained book. I know the next book
is going to be linked with KISS OF FIRE, but it will
stand on its own just fine. As a beginning of a new
paranormal series I absolutely adored KISS OF FIRE and
anxiously await to read the next book, not because I
have to in order to figure out what is going to happen,
but because I WANT to because the writing was so good
and the development pulled me into this world. Kudos!
