The second in the Ephemera series, BELLADONNA is a fantastic read. Ms.
Bishop has one very fertile imagination. Coming into this series without
reading the first book, I was a bit confused at first, but enough is
explained throughout this story that I was able to follow along quickly.
Ephemera is an intriguing world, and the skill taken to create it is
readily apparent.
Glorianna Belladonna is a rogue in a universe that desperately needs her.
Unfortunately, no one realizes that she is their salvation. People shun
what they do not understand, and they definitely do not understand
Glorianna. Good and evil, black and white. Nothing is that easy. And while
there is good there has to be evil, since one can not exist without the
other.
Ephemera is a shattered landscape. In a complex scenario, the ancestors
broke the world apart in order to protect it from the ultimate evil – the
Eater of the World. This plan worked for a long time, but the Eater has
arisen again and is bent on devastating everything.
Glorianna has been alone, so alone, except in her dreams. Michael has also
been alone, a wanderer who never stays in any place for too long. When he
starts dreaming of a beautiful woman, little does he realize how much it is
going to change his life. These two lives are intertwined in a complex plot
and watching their progression is fascinating. BELLADONNA is worth reading
on so many levels, up to and including the fantasy and romance aspects.
