Shea Sinclair finally has an opportunity to show the city of Huntsville that she is much more than the local TV station’s weather girl. When the station’s top anchorwoman becomes ill, Shea is chosen to cover the verdict of the Nick Taggert trial. Shea and her camera team arrive at the courthouse just in time to be taken hostage by the convicted killer who has managed to escape from his prison guards.

Nick Taggert, owner of the Taggert Construction Company, and until recently one of Huntsville’s most prominent citizens has just been found guilty of murdering his neighbor. Though he has maintained his innocence from day one, his lawyer has failed to convince the jury. Nick knows he is being framed but he has run out of opportunities to prove it. When the sheriff’s deputies lead him away to be transported back to jail, Nick overpowers one deputy and manages to grab the gun of the other. As he makes his escape, he runs smack dab into local news reporter Shea Sinclair.

Shea, sensing journalistic stardom within her grasp, is energetically making sure Nick’s entire escape is on camera. A smarter person would have gotten out of Nick Taggert’s way, but Shea is thinking, “no more weather girl". Instead of capturing the headlines of the day, she becomes the headline when Nick takes her hostage.

It doesn’t take long before Shea and Nick realize that fate threw the two of them together and that fate and eventually love will prove Nick innocent. Shea’s ties to the journalism world and the involvement of her three dynamic brothers (a FBI agent, a private investigator and a rodeo performer) go a long way towards helping Nick.

HOT ON HIS TRAIL is a fast paced whodunit with a wonderfully uncomplicated romance. There is no room for game playing and secrecy when two lovers are on the run with the possibility that each could be torn from the other at any moment. 

In addition to providing readers with another exciting, suspenseful story, Linda Winstead Jones also reunites us with three characters from her previous Silhouette Intimate Moments # 1068, MADIGAN’S WIFE. Grace and Ray Madigan along with Ray’s ex partner, Luther Malone, play active roles in Nick’s investigation. Clearly there will be more stories that involve characters from this series and fans of Ms. Jones will be eagerly awaiting these books, but in the meantime HOT ON HIS TRAIL provides enough satisfaction until the next installment is published.
