Jessie
Ryder, a professional photographer, has to see the daughter she
gave away before it’s too late. That’s
Jessie’s primary thought while heading home for the first time
in 15 years. The
only problem is that Lila doesn’t know she was adopted. Luz,
Jessie’s sister, is the only mother Lila has ever known. She’s only known Jessie from a few phone calls, occasional
emails, and postcards sent from exotic places. Jessie doesn’t
want to change that; she just wants to see Lila and her family. What
could be wrong with that?
Dusty
Matlock had a moment in his life that changed it forever and,
unfortunately for him, others consider it to be newsworthy. Dusty only wants to live his life and raise his daughter as
best he can. When Dusty sees Jessie across the Lake, he’s
curious. With Blair
LaBorde hounding him to tell his story to “Texas Life,”
Dusty is not ready to trust anyone. He
finally gives in to Blair and when she shows up with Jessie, he
knows he’ll never be the same. Dusty
is shocked that he’s so attracted to Jessie. This
level of attraction is something he hasn’t felt for 2 years. And
he wants her to know his story. Dusty
knows he’s found someone he can’t let go of, now he just has
to convince her.
Jessie
is trying to deal with past mistakes and choices she made that
could destroy her family as well as a personal problem she
doesn’t want anyone to know about. When
she feels the attraction to Dusty, she’s determined to fight
it. Jessie is sure
it won’t work and it won’t be good for either of them. Jessie’s
caused enough problems in people’s lives. Can
Dusty get past the wall around Jessie’s heart? Will
Jessie’s visit and confessions destroy her family?
HOME
BEFORE DARK is a story of facing mistakes and choices made, and
of dealing with the consequences. It’s also a story of facing limitations and moving on. Ms.
Wiggs has once again written a story that will touch you in many
ways. Jessie is not
your typical heroine, she’s not perfect, but she is strong. The
hero, Dusty, has his own problems but is strong enough to
realize a good thing when he sees it. The
secondary characters are wonderfully written and add to the
story. They all are
true to life and you find yourself wondering what you would do
in their situations. While
HOME BEFORE DARK is a romance, it's not your traditional
romance. It explores the way a single mistake can touch
many lives. It
deals with the effect a lie can have on the person it was meant
to protect. This
will certainly go on my keeper shelf.
