Glenna Hastings is one
bullet away from death when she is rescued from a hijacking by
Master Sergeant Rafal Marek. Rafe is a member of Delta
Force's Eagle Squadron, an elite team of the Army's Special
Forces. Unfortunately, Rafe's rescue is thwarted by drug
lord Juarez's men; and he and Glenna are taken to a compound on
the tropical island of Rocama, where they are held prisoner.
As they work together to plot an escape, Rafe and Glenna are
drawn to each other, but struggle to resist temptation.
Rafe warns Glenna of the infatuation that prisoners sometimes
feel for their rescuers, but Glenna is convinced that her
feelings are real.
Rafe is haunted and
scarred by a tragic accident in his past. Glenna keeps
herself aloof, afraid of being like her philandering
father. Proximity and secrets shared in the heat of a
tropical night generate sparks between these two lonely, wounded
people, but can they overcome the odds and build a lasting fire?
Military heroes are
hot right now, and in EYE OF THE BEHOLDER, Ingrid Weaver has
created a character who is completely combustible. Rafe is
every woman's dream, despite the scars that crisscross his face.
His Eagle Squadron buddies are fiercely protective of him, but
Glenna is well able to handle the challenges. After all
the furor surrounding Navy SEALS in romance novels, readers will
appreciate the Army getting equal time. Ingrid Weaver
knows her stuff. The military details are well-written and
convincing. The story switches milieux easily, from the
thick vegetation of the tropical jungle to the glittering
elegance of a hotel ballroom and back. The characters are
well-rounded and believable. Rafe is a super hero who
never descends to superhero cartoonery; and Glenna is likeable
and strong when she needs to be. Love scenes between these
characters are passionate and tender, giving a whole new meaning
to the phrase "jungle sex."
EYE
OF THE BEHOLDER is first in a series, with two more books
expected, the next in April 2003. Readers will want
to see more of Rafe's buddy, the charming Flynn O'Toole, and
Captain Sarah Fox, the honorary female member of the team.
Step aside, Navy SEALS: Eagle Squadron has arrived!
