A
beautiful collection of one-sided letters, AS ALWAYS, JACK:
A WARTIME LOVE STORY, details the roots of a true
romantic relationship that develops during World War II between
Jack, a navy pilot, and BeeBee, a California girl. The author, Emma Sweeney, introduces and concludes the novel
through memoirs of her own experience.
She explains that her father, the navy pilot, disappeared
in 1956 before she was born.
As a result, Emma has always felt that she has missed out
on a special relationship between father and daughter.
After reading her father’s letters to her mother, Emma
recognizes Jack was everything she imagined him to be.
The
letters are eloquently written, and they are full of personality
and flirtation. The
reader truly develops a sense of Jack’s personality and wants
to know so much more than the details included in the novel.
In the end, I was left in tears by this poignant, unique,
and true collections of letters that not only share the intimate
feelings of two young lovers, but also the reality of World War
II. AS ALWAYS,
JACK: A WARTIME
LOVE STORY is a must-read for everyone!
