Paranormal

Rufus Sinclair has had enough of the three ghosts who haunt Laguna Vista but his friendship with his boss, Marcus Van Buren, is more important than his emotional turmoil in having to go back. Expecting paranormal fireworks once he sets foot in Laguna Vista, he's surprised when Izzy, his ghostly tormentor, doesn't want to see him. In fact, instead of the excitement he expects from her, he feels her loneliness, heartbreak and panic. Panic over the fact that he might find out what happened all those years ago, her one regret. As the panic approaches full force, Rufus is thrown for a loop, right out the window!

He is dazed when he lands, and when he comes to he realizes that he's been thrown back in time to the 20's. He's still at Laguna Vista, but the ghosts are now alive in their time. Having no way to get home, Rufus takes the time to try and figure out what Izzy's biggest regret could be, hoping that once he figures it out he might be able to get back home. Along the way, he meets Grace LaRue, a tough talkin', full of energy fly-gal who challenges everything within himself. Trapped in a time not his own, with a woman who steals his rogue heart, Rufus is torn between love and the future.

I always enjoy the stories that C. B. Scott creates, but I think I can say with some certainty that KINDRED SPIRITS is my favorite of all. We are first introduced to the three ghosts in SCANDALOUS SPIRITS, where Rufus was a strong secondary character. Rufus is a man who loves women, all women. One of the greatest strengths in this story is watching Rufus fall for Grace and admit his feelings. The ending was just perfect. You don't know if Grace and Rufus will be able to be together, and more importantly, you can envision them not being able to. Now, I'm not spilling the beans, I just wanted to let you know that the ending is very emotional. So much so, that I actually cried. There aren't too many books out there that I can say that about. KINDRED SPIRITS is complex, emotional and adventurous, and I'm sorry to see C.B. Scott bring an end to their 20's Laguna Vista paranormal. But what an end!
