Mystery

John the Eunuch finds himself in a new baffling case, this time it is hard to decide if there is a sadistic murder at large or a vengeful God. After three Stylites (Pillar Saints) spontaneously combust during a thunderstorm, John the Eunuch is not convinced it was an act of nature. With little more than a pile of ashes remaining, there are few clues to investigate. When a young woman is burned to death and the distraction allows Senator Aurelius to be poisoned, John and his friends realize they must work fast to stop the murder before more people are killed and Caesar's Empire is destroyed.

Set in Constantinople during the sixth century, TWO FOR JOY is jam-packed with historical detail and a gripping mystery. The lengthy research each author completed shows through the precise narrative and complex characters. Fans of historical mysteries will certainly enjoy this second adventure with John the Eunuch and his comrades.

The conclusion kept me guessing until the very end, and the twist surprise ending was a joy to read! I definitely could not have guessed the killer correctly. A glossary of names and places is given at the end of the book for reference.
