| Mika Noguchi is
a demon half-breed. Not really accepted in her world of Orcus or
this world either. Born as a weak type of demon called Mahsei,
her kind has an impulsive nature and is typically fun loving.
Crimson City houses humans, vampires and werewolves. Demons are
rarely let through the veil, usually only through a summoning.
Mika has an advantage in being half-human. She can cross the
veil at will. The Council, the ruling body of Orcus, gives her a
task to find McCabe, the protector of humans in Crimson City. It
is legend that he holds the incantation to enslave all demons
and lower the veil.
Conor McCabe has no idea
what trouble awaits him. Born through violence, he holds all
demons in contempt although he is half demon himself. As a
Kiverian demon, he has a dark side that many demons fear. But
Mika doesn’t care. She knows the first time she sees his image
in a picture that he is her soul-mate, her vishtau. Slated for
death at the Council’s hand, she will do anything to protect
him. It is only with a vishtau that demons can procreate and a
demon will fight till the death to keep this sacred union. So
with deceit, she employs Conor as her protector from a demon who
she says is trying to kill her.
Conor feels the intense
attraction, but doesn’t understand it. Meanwhile Mika uses
each and every minute with him to goad him into fulfilling the
need he has created in her. Conor plans to resist her with all
his self control, but the demon in him is struggling for
release. He is trying to find the would be assassins that have
targeted Mika. Unknowingly, an assassin of the darkest kind of
demons, the Bak-Faru, is tracking Mika. They plan to kill her
and use McCabe to fulfill the legend to lower the veil. Their
only hope is to fulfill the vishtau and bond to each other in
order to defeat the demons. Conor must learn to trust and accept
love if it is possible.
Ms. O’Shea writes a
compelling story. The reader will be enthralled with the
characters of Conor and Mika. Their story is intense, but offers
a heartwarming love story. You will be tempted to stand up and
cheer Mika on in her quest. And not to mention, you’ll feel
the impulse to knock the stubborn Conor over the head. |
