Texas Ranger Jack Galway
has spent the past fourteen months separated from his wife, who
fled the marriage to her grandmother in Boston.
Jack’s male pride has kept him from going to her, but now
with a criminal on the loose, Jack realizes his wife and daughters
may be in danger.
Susanna Galway never found
the courage to tell Jack the truth about the man stalking her.
Fleeing to Boston, she has remained with her family and
while she misses her husband, she does not miss his work.
Deciding to buy a remote cabin in the Adirondack Mountains
of New York, Susanna has the perfect escape when a face from her
past suddenly appears in Boston and may well mean her harm.
With her daughters and
grandmother, Iris, in tow, Susanna takes them all to the remote
cabin hoping that her pursuer will not follow.
Soon enough, Jack arrives to protect them all, but not
knowing why his wife is a target, Jack is unsure how to best
protect the family he loves.
Set in the expansive
Adirondack Mountains, Ms. Neggers has penned another fantastic
story. I admit to
being a sucker for these local settings, and I have come to depend
on Ms. Neggers’ stories to feel a lot like home.
THE CABIN certainly met my expectations and more.
Jack is one sexy man, firm and masculine, yet realizing
that his wife will end their marriage if he does not make a few
changes. Susanna, I
felt, should have told him the truth earlier, but without her
secrets the story would not have evolved.
The twin daughters, Maggie and Ellen, were just as one
would expect teenagers to be.
Knowledgeable to what was happening between their parents
and determined to show their father the things he was doing all
wrong, the girls were a delightful addition to the story.
I did favor two other characters though- Jack’s friend
and fellow Ranger, Sam, would make a wonderful hero for his own
book, and maybe with next August’s STONEBROOK COTTAGE, I just
may get my wish. Susanna’s
grandmother, Iris, is head strong, determined and sassy riot who
emitted plenty of laughs from this reader.
Fans of THE CARRIAGE HOUSE
(2/01) will be delighted with the updates in Tess, Andrew and
Dolly’s lives. Tess
and Susanna are best friends, so expect to catch up on news.
