Young Adult
Paranormal fans
will greatly enjoy new author
Stephenie Meyer’s unique gothic young adult novel
entitled TWILIGHT. Fans are immediately immersed into
the novel through the thoughts of main character
Isabella Swan. Isabella has relocated to the dreary
and rainy city of Forks, Washington after her mother
remarries and decides to go on tour with her new
athlete husband. Isabella doesn’t know anyone in her
new hometown other than her lonely father, and she
immediately enrolls in the local high school.
Bella is fortunate to quickly establish a network of
friends, including the attention of several handsome
and popular boys. The one boy who intrigues her the
most, however, is the mysterious and gorgeous Edward
Cullen. Edward and his foster siblings are
unnaturally beautiful and stay to themselves, and
Bella is intensely attracted to Edward. Despite her
interest, Edward is outwardly hostile and wants to
have nothing to do with the new girl in school.
Unfortunately for Edward, the fates are conspiring to
bring them together, and he is forced to save Bella’s
life more than once. As the two teenagers’ lives
become more intertwined, Bella discovers a deadly
truth Edward is desperate to keep hidden from the
world: he is a vampire. The frightening appeal of
Edward’s life is irresistible, and Bella cannot deny
her love for Edward. She doesn’t know, however, if a
relationship with Edward is worth risking her life.
When visitors come to dreary Forks, the shaky
connection between Bella and Edward may fall apart.
Without a doubt, TWILIGHT is the most engaging young
adult novel I have read in several years. Ms. Meyer’s
characters are complex and engaging, and it was very
easy to become invested in their lives. The
mysterious connection to the Native American population adds a strand of secrecy that adds an
additional level of tension, and the frightening
climax of the novel will leave readers frantic to read
to the last page. This reviewer cannot wait to read
the next novel in this series! |
