WHISTLER’S ANGEL

Adam Whistler has a dark past and part of it is catching up with him. To protect himself he has stolen a ledger from his old boss and is using it as an insurance policy. The ledger contains illegal transactions that stem from the U.S. drug search and seizure laws. Many men got rich from these schemes and Whistler now has a record of their names. One of the men that he used to work for makes a stupid and dangerous mistake, he goes after Whistler’s girlfriend and her mother. This action brings Whistler’s very powerful father into the game. A man that no one trifles with.

I was very disappointed in this book. I thought that the hero, who is thirty-four, is at first too much under the thumb of his father and then under the thumb of his girlfriend. I waited for him to come into his own but he didn’t. I don’t know if it was intentional on the part of the author but some of the “thugs” have a Donald E. Westlake cartoon character quality. With that said, I do recommend Mr. Maxim’s BANNERMAN series as well as my favorite book of his, THE SHADOW BOX.
