“Sin”
MacAllister, given as a child to the English, is called “Malek
in Olum,” or “King’s Executioner” with good reason. Sin
is a seasoned warrior and assassin to King Henry II as well as a
trusted advisor. When King Henry “asks” Sin to marry a
Scottish lass, Sin refuses. He doesn’t want to marry anyone;
especially someone from Scotland. Sin has never felt he belonged
anywhere; and he doesn’t want to own or be owned by anyone or
anything ever again.
Caledonia
MacNeely, a spirited fighter, is determined to get away
from Henry and return to her homeland with Jamie, her little
brother. No matter how hard she tries, the two of them can’t
seem to get away from Henry. When she makes an escape attempt
and runs into a knight dressed in black, she only thinks that
he’s handsome. Little does she know that he will change her
life forever.
Ordered
to marry by King Henry, both finally give in and travel back to
Callie’s home with Sin’s one true friend, Simon. Sin has
been given the order to find and kill “The Raider” before he
does any more damage to English lands near the border. The only
problem now is finding out who “The Raider” is when no one
will give information to an Englishman. Along the way, Callie
finds that she wants her husband, Sin. She’s falling in love.
But how do you get a man who’s never known love to believe it?
When Sin’s brothers, Braden, Ewan, and Lochlan arrive, things
start to get interesting. Can
Sin trust the feelings he’s never known before? Or will he be
betrayed once again? Has Sin finally found the place he belongs?
BORN
IN SIN is a great book. The dialogue between the characters is
lively and charming. The characters themselves will draw you
into the story and not let go. Ms. MacGregor has a way of making
you feel as though you are there in the middle of it all. This
is the third story in the MacAllister Series, with MASTER OF
DESIRE (a related book), and CLAIMING THE HIGHLANDER (Braden’s
story.) Both are
great books.
This is one of those books that I will be
rereading the whole series just so I can read this one again.
The story is fun and will have you laughing out loud at times;
but will also have you almost in tears for Sin’s past life.
This is truly a story of learning to trust in others and to
forgive the past. Ms. MacGregor has become one of my favorite
auto-buy authors who always delivers a great story with
fascinating characters. Anyone who likes Scottish Historicals
will love this book. The next one in the series, Ewan’s story,
TAMING THE SCOTSMAN, is due out September of 2003. I know it
will be on the top of my “to buy” list. I also hope to find books under her pseudonym Sherrilyn Kenyon.
