Tangerine Taylor is taking her first business trip to New Orleans as the department manager for her company and decides that she will take the time to tour the city. Stopping at a café for something to eat she finds she's attracted to a tall, dark and handsome stranger. Feeling that no man can be trusted, now isn't the time to trust another man when her feelings are still raw from the break up with her boyfriend. Yet, she can't seem to get the man off of her mind.
Eric Duvall isn't sure what it is about Tangerine that he's attracted to, just that there's something that pulls at his insides. Introducing himself as she sits alone dining, they seem to hit it off. Eric isn't aware that Tangie has decided that she will trust no man and moves forward in trying to get close to her. To Tangie's surprise she feels drawn to him as well but after sending time together she's still not ready for her heart to be broken again. Tangie has a lot to think about as she leaves New Orleans and returns home to her comfortable life.
Tangie doesn't know that Eric is an employee of the Special Corruption Bureau and therefore lives a dangerous life. But Eric knows that it's time for him to make changes in his life because the loneliness he feels has lasted too long. Taking a chance on walking away and starting a life with Tangie could be just what he needs, but how will he convince Tangie that what they share can grow into a relationship that will last forever.
Ms. Jones' first book is filled with more suspense than romance, but the story is one that you'll like. Eric is one determined brother that knows what he wants and is willing to do whatever it takes to win Tangie's trust and love. While the story has a happy ever after ending, the excitement added by Eric's job will keep you turning the page.
