| Cassie Burdette took a job at the Stoney Creek Country Club as their new touring pro because she was not doing well in the spring LPGA tour events. Cassie was asked to attend the Board of Directors meeting as a representative for the pro shop, one of her first assignments. There she soon learned that the Board was not too happy about having equality for the female members. Elizabeth Weigel, president of the ladies group, brought this to light. She also learned that Brad Latham was pushing for the Audubon Sanctuary Certification program, a program where the club would be more environmentally responsible. This was also something that was not looked upon nicely by the Board.
The next day, Cassie was asked to attend the "ladies member-guest day", where she would man the seventh hole during the tournament. Things were going fine until she had to go to the washroom. With the last group of ladies one hole behind, and no sign of relief from Scott Malory, Cassie decided to sneak into the bush and go "au natural". There she noticed something red and cautiously went to look. To her surprise, there was Brad Latham’s body tangled in the underbrush dead. This is just a start of a series of events that put Cassie’s life in danger.
PUTT TO DEATH is definitely a golfer’s mystery. This is the third in the series but stands alone easily as well. Ms. Isleib has nicely put a glossary of terms in the beginning of the book for those readers who are not familiar with the sport. There are many suspects and when the killer is revealed it is unexpected. The mystery is cleverly written and readers will not be disappointed. |
