Alexis Stevenson is starting her life over with her daughter, Tara, after living in a loveless marriage for four years.  She has given up her career as a college teacher to become a homemaker for the Harrington brothers, Telford, Russ, and Drake.  Of course they have no idea about her past, and she has no intention of sharing her background with them, that is until she finds herself not only falling for Telford, but his brothers and the cook as well.  They have accepted her as family when she thought she was alone except for her daughter and a sister that moves around.

Telford had placed an ad for a homemaker, but coming home and finding Alexis and Tara was more than he thought he could handle.  However, after getting over the initial shock of seeing not only a little girl in his mist, but a beautiful woman, his thoughts make him wonder how will this work.  But his worries are forgotten as Alexis explains the new house rules to him.  Although Telford has his own way of doing things, there’s something about Alexis that tells him to give her a try.

As Telford and Alexis grow a little more than comfortable around each other, there are things that she learns about Telford that surprise her.  Especially when it appears that they have some of the same people in their lives from different perspectives, in addition she learns that he is the young man she fell in love with in college and shunned.  These secrets cause her to fear exposing her true self to the one man she truly loves.  While Telford is trying to figure out what is causing Alexis to withdraw from his love, he continues to shower her with love and to care for her daughter just as she was his very own, hoping that she will confide in him so that their relationship can move forward.

As Alexis learns to open up and share what she knows with Telford and his family, the one secret she feels she can’t talk about is there very first meeting years ago.  Telford has been very clear that she has to make the next move; she lets the relationship become strained and cause tension between everyone in the household because she fears losing Telford forever.

Ms. Forster has woven an enjoyable romantic tale around two people that grew up in homes where love was not demonstrated between their parents, thus causing them to lose faith in true love.  But as Alexis and Telford learn to share their feelings, the other two Harrington brothers also realize what they’re missing in their lives, and we can only hope that she will continue their stories in future books.
