Historical Romance
Evangeline of Inverfyre is a dutiful woman. When she is told by her dying mother to retrieve a relic that has been stolen from her family, she hastens to do so. She is an intelligent woman whose honor and pride are immeasurable. She will do what she must, no matter what that is, to restore her family's name and wealth.
Gawain Lammergeier is a thief, plain and simple. He has been trained by the best, his sire. Gawain is a man known to care for little other than himself and what riches he may gain. He is shocked when a daring wench dares to steal from him and he is even more surprised when she turns his life around.
The adventures these two individuals share are entertaining and breathtaking. They are both daring souls determined to have their own way. With the help of a little magic and pure hard-headness, they set their lives to rights. I dare not tell too much. The story is wrought with ever changing scenarios and surprises and I would not want to give anything away.
I picked this book up to read at a time when I was not really interested in reading a historical romance. I am glad to admit that this story changed where my interest lie. The highly talented Ms. Delacroix is a first rate writer. She tells the story from each characters point of view, in first person! She has taken a task that can often fall flat and has made it phenomenal. She takes you in and keeps you there. Her pages are filled with full-bodied characters and real life happenings. The pages of this book are filled with one believable event after another. Can you tell I loved it?
I had no idea that there was a story before this. The Scoundrel works well as a stand-alone. However, I am going on the hunt for her first book in the series, The Roque, as soon as I can. I will also be waiting, ever so patiently, for the next book in the series, The Warrior. I cannot wait to read more of this author's works. I hope you enjoy this story of fated love as much as I did.
