Pastor George Landris is the type of pastor that truly takes his job seriously and wants to do the right thing for everyone. The only problem is that he struggles with life's issues because of the people that surround him. First there's his fiancée Theresa Jordan, a person so selfish I'm embarrassed to call her a woman. Although she knows that her future is with a man of God, she can't seem to accept or understand that he can't walk away from anyone that needs help, even if it happens to be a woman from his past. But Theresa's selfishness doesn't just affect her relationship with George; it also affects her relationship with her mother, father, and friends. The funny thing is that she doesn't really understand what it means to be there for someone until it's too late.
Theresa has never believed that the world would exist in a good way unless she was at the top. All of her life her father and adopted mother have given her whatever she has wanted, while she treated her biological mother like trash. To Theresa, beauty is contained in the outside appearance despite what can be found in the person's heart. So when she finally meets a person that lives by the ethics of quality standards like George, she finds that her old ways of getting what she wants just doesn't work the way they usually have in the past.
As their wedding day draws near, George is faced with helping a female friend from the past or staying with Theresa to prove that he is committed to her. The choice that was made that night changes their relationship forever and they find themselves in a situation that changes their future. As George continues to pray for guidance from above, Theresa takes the approach of silence and allows George's integrity and character to be questioned by his congregation.
The question asked throughout this story "Have you ever loved someone from afar?" is truly a good one and one that Ms. Griggs helps us to answer. I loved this story and I think that everyone that buys it will truly learn something if they open their mind and heart to the message that is delivered. With all the things that are happening in the world today, This story clearly helps us to see how getting caught up in the worldly things on earth can rob us of the bigger blessings that are ahead of us. George has the patience of Job and let me tell you with a woman like Theresa it would have been very easy to forget who he was and just be a man. |
