| Suchen Keblava, steward to Lord
Auglar, is set upon a quest by the wizard Ax, who seeks to
protect the kingdom of Jenel.
The young Queen, who only recently came of age, is being
held captive by the Regency Council, and will be forced to marry
the Emperor Jahcgroth who wishes to take over Jenel and the
Circle Kingdoms for his own purposes.
Suchen and Lord Auglar's Sworn, his elite military
bodyguards, must escort the Lady Trethya, an ally of Queen Rozah
to Lord Auglar. She
has important information that will help the Queen's cause and
rally the other lords of the kingdom to her defense.
The Wizard Ax is sending them another ally,
Yozerf Trihychyl, a half-breed, part human, part Aclyte.
Ax had saved Yozerf's life, and now Yoserf must pay up
and assist the Wizard's quest.
Yoserf hates humans, hates them for despising his kind
and for their prejudice against his race.
Reluctantly he agrees to help, though promising himself
to protect his heart and to never trust the treacherous humans.
Suchen, however, is a different matter, she steals into
his battered heart and fills his soul, and for once in his life,
Yoserf dares to hope. Yet
forces are conspiring against their quest, sorcery, demons, the
past, and a traitor from within.
WOLFKIN is a superb fantasy shapeshifter
romance that will keep you turning the pages.
The emphasis here is on the fantasy, and though the
romance is central to the story, it is more what you find in
fantasy novels than in romance novels.
Ms. Corvidae explores several themes within this tightly
written novel, including prejudice and forgiveness.
Ms. Corvidae has a vivid writing style that assaults the
senses and makes you experience every detail of the WOLFKIN
world. Be
forewarned, however, that WOLFIN is explicitly violent and gory,
and isn't recommended for the fainthearted.
If you're tired of the same old same old, give WOLFKIN a
try. The story and
characters will remain with you and haunt you long after you've
reached the end. |
