THE STORYTELLERS' COLLECTION:
TALES OF FARAWAY PLACES
compiled by Melody Carlson
Multnomah Publishing

Inspirational
Combining both fiction and nonfiction, this is an anthology with something for everyone. The stories range from historic to
contemporary, mainstream to multicultural. The heroes and heroines face having to suffer for their faith, having the courage to die for Christ,
or finding the will to live for Him. Some have strong faith, while others are just discovering theirs, and God is found in unexpected
places.
With twenty nine stories contained in this book, I will just make note of some of the more outstanding ones. Any pet lover will find their
heart warmed in AN ANGEL IN GOLDEN FUR, and recall the angels they know in black, white, and other furs. I was treated to my first Terri
Blackstock work in SO SHINE, as a woman faces grief and whether or not she can live after she has lost all she cared about. HAITI'S SONG by
Deborah Raney is sweetly ironic, and A REASON TO LIVE proves that Karen Kingsbury never disappoints her readers with a story to touch the heart
and bring a tear to your eyes, at least it did mine.
I found new authors to explore, and even a couple of movies that I will have to pester Blockbuster to find. Though there were several stories
that were just not to my taste, there is enough range here that anyone should find something they will enjoy. Proceeds of this book benefit the
Jesus Film project. |
