THE SENATOR'S OTHER DAUGHTER
THE BELLES OF LORDSBURG
Stephen Bly
Crossway Books
May 2001
ISBN 1-581-34236-5
From the moment Grace Denison meets Colton Parnell, there is a spark
between them. Banished from her home in Washington D.C. in order to keep
her secrets from damaging her father's political ambitions, Grace comes
to Lordsburg as the new telegraph operator. She soon makes a place for
herself there; finding love and friendship in unexpected places, and
most importantly, finding herself. Acting in faith and love, Grace works
to clear Colt's name when he is accused of murder, despite the risks to
herself she must take. Will her involvement in her new life cost her what she values most in her past?
Having recently read several of Mr. Bly's books, I can say this is the
best one of them so far. There is genuine humor, particularly in the
form of a pet pig, realistic, imperfect Christian characters, and a
strong plot to draw readers into the story. The romance is handled as is
one in the older Cary Grant or Clark Gable movies. Normally, I dislike
historical books, and if I do read them I prefer English settings, not
American; so it is something to say that really liked this one. |
