BREAKER’S
REEF
|

Cape Refuge is a small town on the coast of Georgia. A place where people go to find peace and safety, they certainly don’t expect murder, missing girls, and a police chief suspected of committing the crimes.
Sheila Caruso is the mother of 18-year-old Sadie, and young Caleb. She’s also a recently released ex-con. When she gets a job working for famous mystery writer, Marcus Gibson, she’s excited, scared, nervous, and unsure of herself. Marcus Gibson is a little, okay a lot, eccentric, which makes him scary. More so when a girl is found murdered and Marcus is discovered to have written the crime scene exactly in a previous book. Is it chance or is he the murderer?
Police Chief Matthew Cade is determined to find the truth about this murder. Then a second girl is found murdered, and her friend is missing. All the evidence is pointing to Cade. Now as a suspect he’s not going to rest until he finds the murderer and stops him. Is a serial killer preying on the young girls of Cape Refuge? Can Cade prove his innocence and find the missing girl in time?
Stakes get even higher when Sadie Caruso disappears while searching for the missing girl. Now two girls are missing, evidence leads to two suspects, and a murderer is still on the loose. As Sheila struggles with her faith and finding her missing daughter, will she return to her old ways? Can Cade find the real culprit before it’s too late for them all? Or will children pay for sins from the past?
BREAKER’S REEF has me asking what to say, how to describe this book without giving away spoilers. This is my first book by Ms. Blackstock but certainly won’t be my last! While part of the Cape Refuge series, BREAKER’S REEF can stand alone. However, I now want to read the previous stories, CAPE REFUGE (March 2002), SOUTHERN STORM (May 2003), and RIVER’S EDGE (September 2004). The mystery pulls you in and has you guessing who the real murderer is; the characters are well written and seem more realistic with their flaws and doubts. The message written within the pages is well done throughout the story. If you want a truly engrossing, suspenseful tale mixed with an inspiring message and realistic characters, you’ll want to add BREAKER’S REEF to you “to buy” list! I would certainly not let the inspirational aspects keep me from reading and enjoying this author’s work, so those not inclined to read inspirationals should give this one a try. |
