On the way home from an interview that ties into her current investigation, Beth is almost run off the road. Then, she comes home to discover that a young boy is hiding there. Jimmy had been sent to steal files off her computer, files that could destroy the modern day OLIVER TWIST like scam the director of St. Claire's Children's Home is running. However, Beth came home too soon, and he was trapped there. Beth takes him in, and tells his story to the social worker who is helping her, Nick.  Both are working to shut down the criminal operation, but Beth has a personal stake in this that she is keeping secret.

As they come closer to being able to end this reign of terror, the attacks against Beth become more lethal, and the levels of corruption they discover run deeper.  They also have to worry about Jimmy's sister who is still in the home and could be used as a hostage against Jimmy.  The danger climbs with every page, until there is a final, dramatic conclusion in which lives are on the line.

Fast paced, intense, and dramatic are just a few of the words that come to mind to describe this book.  One man's twisting of the Bible, in addition to his other sick plots, may have the potential to ruin young lives far beyond the criminal actions he forces them to participate in, but they are given the hope of recovery as the truth is made known.  It is a shame that this is the final book in an outstanding series.
