Rachel Johanssen had dared her friend, Beth Morgan, to answer a personal ad in a ranching magazine; and Rachel was shocked when that dare turned into marriage. When she goes to visit Beth, she does not expect to enjoy herself much, and certainly not find love. Yet, that is what happens when she meets neighboring rancher, Dirk Tanner. However to achieve their happiness, first Rachel must escape the clutches of a dangerous stalker, and then decide whether or not she can find happiness away from city life.

In the second half of REFUGE, Beth's foreman, Jake finds romance with the young woman that they find ill and unconscious by the roadside. After they take her in, Emily Walters finds a place in the hearts of everyone on the ranch, but when she realizes how vast the class difference is between her and Jake, the son of a wealthy family, she is afraid and flees. Can Jake find her again and convince her of his love?

While both stories were strong ones, I would have liked to see them each have a novel to themselves to allow their depth to be greater. The characters were all good people with strong faith that lead them to do what was right in God's eyes to achieve a satisfactory ending.
