Inspirational Historical
Kitty is a
house slave at the beck and call of a spoiled young Southern
woman named Missy Claire. With the Yankees on their way
Kitty faces a
critical decision: stay with her owners or take a chance on
freedom. Never
in her life has Kitty had such a choice to make and she is
understandably
overwhelmed by the possibilities-which include following her
love, Grady.
With her world in such turmoil, which path will Kitty take?
A LIGHT TO MY PATH is the third novel of Ms. Austin's Refiner's
Fire series.
Though this book tells a complete story, I feel I would have
made more of an
emotional connection with the characters had I read the previous
installments first. Ms. Austin's style is blessedly not
heavy handed or
preachy and her vision of the Civil War Era South feels for the
most part to
be authentic. Events flow between flashback and current
happenings but all
is clearly laid out so no reader should feel disorientated.
Kitty (Anna) is
a likeable heroine and Grady, possessing some admirable
qualities, is a
suitable but slightly less engaging hero. His rage, though
appropriate for
the character, caused this reader some measure of discomfort and
I was
unfortunately tempted to skim. However, make no mistake; A
LIGHT TO MY PATH
is well worth reading, especially for readers with an interest
in this era. |
