Contemporary Romance
New Orleans detective Bobby Halloran isn't too thrilled to be teamed up with "Earnest" Emma Frey, a transfer detective who hails from Los Angeles. Their attitudes clash, and their way of doing police work differs greatly. Emma is definitely "by-the-book" and reserved, while Bobby is more forgiving of the rules and uses his charm to disarm people. Working together to locate Chloe Mitsumi, a woman from Bobby's past and the victim of a robbery, Bobby and Emma start to realize that there is more to the other than what is outwardly projected. The two compliment each other in their police work, and they soon wonder if they will compliment each other as well outside of work.
I stayed up reading OFF LIMITS way into the night, I didn't want to put the book down! While there is a little bit of mystery and suspense, the storyline is more character driven and reading how each character reacts to a situation was pretty fascinating. Secondary characters are strong and support the leads, as well as being interesting all on their own. I'd love to see Chloe's story because she's so smart and spunky. Coarse language is thrown around a bit more than I'm used to, but it works really well with the characters and doesn't seem out of place. OFF LIMITS offers readers a great blend of romance, adventure, humor and emotional, realistic characters, all the things I like in the stories that I choose to read.
