SEDUCED AT MIDNIGHT Lady Julianne Bradley has met the man of her romantic fantasies. Unable to stop thinking about Bow Street Runner Gideon Mayne, she knows that there is no hope of winning her dream man. With Julianne's snobbish parents determined to marry her off to the highest bidder of remarkable family, Julianne knows that her life will be one of loneliness and boredom, and likely encompass as little freedom as her current life. Increasingly irritated by her lack of input into her own destiny, Julianne determines to take advantage of the current situation to engage Mayne for a brief time. With a thief and murderer on the loose, Mayne is hunting down the culprit. Perhaps a little fudging on Julianne's part will bring the delectable Mayne her way. Only Julianne doesn't realize that her ruse has become reality. Believing it all to be a game, she is shocked to discover that the murderer really is targeting her. But the real question is why. And through it all, Julianne comes to realize that Mayne is more than a dream man; he is utterly perfect and more honorable than most gentlemen of her current aquaintence. Could they ever have a future, or is Julianne destined to become a bride of the aristocracy and live out her days in dreary boredom...if she is allowed to live at all. A fabulous story! I love the daring of Julianne, despite her restricted childhood and despite dire consequences should she have been found out. Gideon Mayne was a perfect hero...proud and determined, and just as enamoured of Julianne and she is of him. The attraction between the two made for a wonderful and exciting read, and I shall be looking forward to more of D'Alessandro's novels in future.
