Defense Intelligence Agency Analyst, Claire Day doesn't remember much about the day the U.S. Embassy in Laka, West Africa was bombed, except for bits of memories that come back in nightmares.  After a year of recovering, she is still having nightmares and shards of memories that seem disjointed and out of place.  The one lingering comfort in these dreams is a man whose face is just out of focus.  Then, she sees his face on a news clip and heads to Washington D. C. to see if he can help her remember.

Former Marine Gunny Sergeant Daniel Weston was on duty at the embassy, protecting Claire.  Against his advice, she leaves his protection to go with a friend out of the room when it was bombed.  He thought her dead for over a year, but when she shows up at his office, she is unaware of exactly what transpired between them.  Soon, the nightmare becomes all too real as someone is bent on killing Claire.  Exactly what happened that day when she left his sight and what does she know that someone is willing to kill her because of it?  As their relationship intensifies, so does the killer's determination to see her dead.

Within the first few pages, I immediately thought, "Ooooh, I'm going to like this one!"  And boy, did I!  The romance doesn't take a back seat to the action and suspense in this thriller, with Dan having been in love with Claire for a while, his feelings are very powerful.  Claire endures quite a bit in this as she struggles with her amnesia, as well as coping with the loss of her father as she tries to stay alive.  The villian in this story is not unknown to the reader, but the actual reason for his plot to kill Claire is not brought out until the end.  Hot and steamy love scenes pepper the story and will leave you breathless!  Complete with everything from a super sexy Marine hero, a smart and tough heroine, plenty of action and sizzling romance, SHADOWS AT MIDNIGHT was one I couldn't put down!
