Susan Lyons does it again with a real scorcher this time.  Dr. Theresa Fallon is a child prodigy and has been burned by love and marriage once before.  Now she is dedicated to her career in social-anthropology and making sure that her life goes along neatly and orderly.  She has carved a place for herself in the academic world and is proud of her accomplishments. Damien Black is a mainstream criminal fiction writer who is partially Aborigine, partially Chinese and all sexy bachelor.  His books revolve around a crime fighting Australian Aborigine and his career is starting to skyrocket.

These two meet casually on a flight from Australia to Hawaii.  Damien is on his way to start a book signing tour in the States, and Theresa is on her way to Vancouver to organize her sisters’ impromptu wedding.  No one can get things in order like Theresa, the eldest child and a control freak.  That is until Damien rocks her world.  Damien has had no trouble meeting and bedding women, but after years of that lifestyle it has gotten old and stale.  When he meets Theresa in the airport book store degrading his book, he is intrigued.  That they happen to sit together on the plane to Honolulu is an auspicious sign from the Fates.

While these two are instantly attracted to each other, and the sex is hot, that is not all that brings them together.  Damien convinces Theresa to stay over in Honolulu for an extra day on her way to Canada. Neither is looking for a long term relationship and both see this as a fun quick fling.  As the stopover progresses, they realize though different in temperament, they have more in common than they thought.  Like the flip side of a coin, they compliment each other. Can this be more than a few day affair?

I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of these characters and what they each brought to the story.  While this book could have easily fallen into the category of “sex-fest reading”, it steers way clear of that.  There is character building that took obvious talent to bring to life.  So while the sex IS hot and plentiful, it is not the impetus that moves this book along, the characters themselves are.  Very well done and highly recommended!
