Historical Romance

Readers are in for a treat as they read the latest from this talented author of historical fiction.  Lady Sarah Baines is a beautiful young woman who has gone through two seasons with nary a suitor.  Her father has banished her to the family estate, but not before marrying her off to Douglas Eston.  Douglas is an entrepreneur who most recent lucrative venture involves creating diamonds.  When Sarah’s father agrees to investing in his company ONLY if Douglas will marry his daughter, Douglas is surprised at himself when he agrees.   He previously never believed in love at first sight….

Lady Sarah is an enigmatic young woman who Douglas finds enchanting.  This novel is the story of their beginnings as a married couple who don’t know one another.  With exquisite care Karen Ranney takes us through the early steps of their backwards courtship.  Douglas is a handsome, Scottish survivor, who understands Sarah and all she has gone through with her rejecting, mean father.  He lends a balanced support that is aimed at wooing Sarah.   Secondary characters add depth and color to the novel.

I loved this book and found it delightfully thoughtful as it took me through all the steps of Sarah and Douglas’ courtship.  The story builds, brick by fascinating brick, into a marvelous love story that was hard to put down.  Readers of this author are sure to love this book and if you are thinking of trying a historical romance, I suggest beginning with this one.  Not to be missed this holiday season.
