Since her mother’s unexpected death, Hayley Carmichael isn’t dealing with life very well. She has quit her job and is staying with her boyfriend Brody. When Brody takes a trip back home leaving Hayley behind, she cannot take it and decides to surprise him. The surprise is on Hayley however, upon her arrival she realizes Brody isn’t there and the family isn’t expecting him.

Jordan Jamison thinks he doesn’t have a future, the feds own his life. He made a deal with them and unless he wants to go back to jail, he cannot break it. His job is to spy on Drake, Brody’s brother, and let the feds know what he is up to. To accomplish that, he is working for Drake at the pub. There he meets Hayley and the hurt in her eyes draws him to her.

Eleanor Northwood, Brody’s mother, has a big heart and when she meets Hayley, she asks her to stay. She has an ulterior motive and knows something is going on with Hayley but doesn’t know to what extent. She loves her sons but they are not right for Hayley; Jordan on the other hand would be perfect.

UNDERCURRENT is a contemporary romance with bit of mystery thrown into the mix. The lead characters are going through their own personal crisis but are able to resolve their conflicts with the help of a little old lady. There is a variety of different subplots which, in the end, come together nicely. Overall, I found this to be a very entertaining novel and look forward to reading more from this author.
