SWORD OF THE HIGHLANDS Veronica Wolff Berkley Sensation ISBN: 978-0-425-22248-5 June 2008 Paranormal Romance Magda Deacon, an art curator and New York heiress, is captivated by an old portrait the museum she works at has recently acquired. The Highlander depicted within the portrait is striking and something about his picture calls to her. While cleaning it one night deep within the museum Magda starts to feel strange and the painting looks strange. Suddenly Magda feels herself falling. James Graham, First Marquis of Montrose, awakens to Magda falling into his lap. He's not quite sure what to make of the strange woman that has entered his life. She appeals to him on many levels but the fear and confusion within her eyes speaks of something more. Could the story she's telling him be true? Could this woman with her strange accent, foreign ways, and beautiful body really not be from his time? James isn't sure but he does know he wants Magda. The Highlands are a dangerous place to be, war rages and James and his men are determined to do their part even if it means dying for their cause. The enemy may not be who or what James expects. Soon Magda must decide if she's willing to fight for what she wants and make things right, or return to the her former life. Is it possible she traveled back in time to find the love of her life or is there more going on? SWORD OF THE HIGHLANDS is a delightful time travel that will please fans of both historical romances and paranormal alike. The main characters are charming and many secondary characters will leave you wondering if there is to be another connected story. The premise behind Magdaʼs time travel is refreshing and intriguing. This was my first book by Veronica Wolff but it certainly won't be my last. SWORD OF THE HIGHLANDS was entertaining and a wonderful way to spend a day. Reviewed by Wendy Keel Rating 4
