Mona Lisa is a Queen of the Monere. As a Queen, she is responsible for her people and must help them replenish their life essence monthly by drawing power from the full moon. But on this month's full moon, something different happens; Mona Lisa is taken by darkness into another realm, the NetherHell. She disappears leaving all those who love her in agony and confusion. When Prince Halcyon, the Demon Prince of Hell can no longer feel his connection with Mona Lisa, he knows she is in terrible danger. He and Gryphon, one of Mona Lisa's warriors and new demon dead go to the NetherHell with hopes of rescuing Mona Lisa in time. They only have little time to accomplish this task as the portal between Hell and NetherHell will only stay open a few hours.

Mona Lisa is captured by a Gargoyle Warlord who offers her a proposition that she may just not want to turn down. The NetherHell is a harsh and dangerous life and offers little in the way of comforts. But with Gordane, she would have a somewhat better life. Meanwhile she and Mona Louisa, a Monere Queen whose essence is shared within her body, is struggling for control of their body. Mona Louisa's power over her has increased with the introduction into the NetherHell, as she is truly demon dead. But both have been changed by the other and Mona Lisa is quickly finding some of her new traits are not necessarily bad. When Halcyon finally finds her, he is able to take her through the portal, but only by removing the essence of Mona Louisa from her, thereby completely changing her and leaving her torn inside.

Sunny's Monere series is always beautifully written and leaves her fans craving more. Mona Lisa's character continues to grow and change with every installment. Her straightforwardness and ability to love are her most endearing traits. I would recommend starting at the beginning of this series so that you can truly enjoy this story, after all you wouldn't want to miss a thing.
