Tracy Farnsworth
Tracy - Your writing schedule amazes me. In February, you released a Signet historical romance, WILD & WICKED, and in
June you have THE MCCAFFERTYS: SLADE coming out with Harlequin and COLD BLOODED with Zebra Romantic
Suspense. On top of those, you are finishing up another historical, IMPOSTRESS, and sequel to COLD BLOODED titled THE
NIGHT BEFORE. All of this comes on top of book signings, conferences, and your own personal life. How do you keep
yourself focused? What is your writing schedule like?
Lisa: Hey, I'm frantic most of the time! Actually I love to write, so that makes it easier. I write every day that I'm home and a
lot of days when I'm on the road. I've always worked around my family's needs, but currently my schedule starts with getting
up early, a jog/walk, then a shower, and I'm off to the Coffee Nook to have a cup and do the crossword puzzle with my sister
and friends. I'm back home in time to hit it around 8 a.m., and I work until noon, when I take a short break. Then I'm back at it
until dinner, though I do break occasionally to do an errand or two. I eat and relax with "Judge Judy," "Friends" or
"Seinfeld," and in the evening I read, watch television or do research.
Tracy - The story of how you came into writing is great. For those who haven’t heard this story, would you care to share it?
Lisa: Basically it's that my sister, Nancy, is very determined (she's an Aries). Twenty years or so ago she read an article in
Time magazine about women who wrote romance novels after the last diaper was washed and the kids put to bed. Nancy
immediately thought, "We can write these kinds of books" (although we'd never read any), because we, too, had little ones. I
said, "No," but then took a look at my career, which was baby-sitting, and thought, "maybe she's right!" By the time my sister
came to pick up her daughter the next day, I'd managed to type out seven pages of the story we'd concocted together.
"Stormy Surrender" was rejected all over New York, but it was the start.
Tracy - According to your bio, you “often have your nose in a book”. What do you currently have in your reading pile?
Lisa - Currently I'm reading Richard North Patterson, Christopher Moore, Jeffrey Deaver and Michael J. Fox. I adore the first
three authors -- man, they're good! -- And I'm reading the last book because my father suffers from Parkinson's disease.
Tracy - Do you know where you are heading yet for your COLD BLOODED book signing tour?
Lisa - You know, I'm not sure yet. I know I'll do some signings in Oregon and Washington, but the other five states are
unknown at this time. I'll post the itinerary on my website -- http://www.lisajackson.com -- the minute I get the word from my
publisher!
Tracy - What are you working on next?
Lisa - I'm deep into THE NIGHT BEFORE, another romantic suspense novel. This one involves a rich, reclusive Savannah
family with dark secrets that they try to keep hidden, as slowly, one by one, the family members are being killed off.
Tracy - For the wide range of topics found in your books, how do you handle the research for them?
Lisa: I do a lot of my research on the Internet, or from books, or from actually visiting an area or talking to professionals. One
night I was researching serial killers on the web and got so creeped out I had to turn off the computer and retreat to my
bedroom with a cup of cocoa and a rerun of "Friends."
Tracy - If there is anything else you would like to mention, please feel free!!
Lisa - There's nothing important left to say except that I feel very lucky to be able to make a living from something that I love to
do!
Thanks!
