It is with
great pleasure that I
introduce you to our July
Author Of The Month, Pamela
Britton. Ms. Britton is the
author of several great
books. She has been
nominated for several
awards, including the RWA
Golden Heart Award. Please
join with me in welcoming
Ms. Britton to our
site.
Wendy:
Ms. Britton could you please
tell those readers who are
new to you and your work a
little about
yourself?
Pamela
Britton: Sure! I'd love
to. Lemme see. I'm
5'8", weigh
105...oh, wait--you want the
truth!! LOL, well, I suppose
my height and weight
don't really matter.
(And if I had to write down
my actual weight I'd
probably scare the beejezus
out of myself and turn
anorexic. Oh, wait, that
might be a good thing.)
Okay, so let me just keep it
simple. I'm married,
have one child, live on a
ranch in Northern California
where we keep seven horses,
five dogs, two cats, six
chickens and various other
forms of wildlife..including
my husband.
Wendy:
I have read TEMPTED,
SEDUCED, ENCHANTED BY YOUR
KISSES, as well as your new
release SCANDAL, and I find
that in all your work you
seem to add a touch of humor
to everyday life. Is this
how you see
life?
Pamela: I
find a lot of humor in
day-to-day living.
There's always laughter
in our house. The other day
I did the Three Stooges
thing with a rake (the
handle came up and whapped
me on the forehead) and I
thought that was so
hilarious--other people
might not. I think my funny
bone is tickled easily and
so that's why humor
invariably finds its way
into my books. Funny thing,
I thought SCANDAL was so
serious, and yet I keep
hearing about how funny it
was. I'm like, "But
that's my SERIOUS
book." No one seems to
have noticed.
Wendy:
Can you share with us how
you get the ideas for your
stories?
Pamela:
They come from all over. The
other day I was having
dinner with my husband and
he said something that got
me thinking, "What
if..." I zoned out
right as I was eating my
mashed potatoes. After
dinner I sat down and wrote
two pages of notes for a
book that will likely be my
fourth for HQN. (I'm
currently locked into a
three-book
series.)
Wendy:
Ms. Britton can you tell us
who is your favorite hero
and heroine thus
far?
Pamela:
Mary and Alex from TEMPTED.
I had so much fun with those
two. Alex was such a prig
and sooo in need of a good
shaking. My next favorite
couple would be Garrick and
Lucy from MY FALLEN ANGEL.
Lucy is my all time favorite
heroine because she's
such a klutz. As someone
who's famous for
thinking her hips are a lot
narrower than they actually
are, I am forever knocking
over boxes, costume jewelry
displays, and in one
instance, a stack of plastic
cups (do you have any idea
how HIGH plastic cups can
bounce?), thus I really
identified with
Lucy.
Wendy:
In SCANDAL, the hero has to
perform a task in order to
get his inheritance, is this
something you've had in
mind for a while or did it
just come to
you?
Pamela:
Actually, the very first
book I wrote featured a duke
who pretended to be a
commoner (that book is still
a giant paperweight...which
is all it's worthy of
being), so I've always
been fond of the concept. My
problem with that first
manuscript was that no one
bought the set up. So
instead of rewriting the
book, I started from
scratch. I think experience
helped me to see what I
needed to accomplish in
order for readers to accept
the premise of the
book.
Wendy:
Can you tell us if we will
see characters from SCANDAL
in any future
novels?
Pamela:
Alas, probably not--though
readers should be aware that
SCANDAL is the sequel to
TEMPTED, my January 2004
book.
Wendy:
For those of us who would
like to write and get
published someday, can you
give us any
advice?
Pamela:
Believe in yourself.
Don't for one moment
think you're not good
enough (I have no college
degree and yet here I am).
There are a million stories
out there and a million ways
to tell them. If you work
hard and keep trying
you'll eventually get
published. I firmly believe
that.
Wendy:
Ms. Britton can you tell us
how you write your stories?
Do they just come to you, or
do you have to do a lot of
research?
Pamela: My
last three books have been
research nightmares. SEDUCED
was difficult to write
because a large part of the
book revolved around a court
trial. Thus I need to
understand how British law
enforcement worked. TEMPTED
revolved around smuggling
and so I had to research
that. SCANDAL revolves
around ships and sailing and
so I had to go back to my
research books for MY FALLEN
ANGEL (it's a pirate
story). So, to answer your
question--YES, I do a lot of
research.
Wendy:
When did you know you wanted
to be a writer and why a
writer of
romance?
Pamela: I
have always read romance
novels and so it was natural
for me to want to write
them. Thank god I didn't
like to read books on
molecular biology. And to be
honest, I never grew up
knowing I wanted to be a
writer. It just sort of hit
me one day..."Hey, I
could do this." I was
so naive. But I stuck with
it and now I have six books
published and eight more on
the way. If I can do it,
anybody
can.
Wendy:
Can you tell us what you
have in store for us in the
future?
Pamela:
Lots and lots of books.
Seriously. I have a
Harlequin American out in
October called COWBOY
TROUBLES, and my first
single title contemporary
out in February of next year
called DANGEROUS CURVES,
then another Harlequin, then
three historicals in a row,
one anthology, another
Harlequin and one more
single title contemporary.
After that--if I'm not
dead from exhaustion--who
knows?
Wendy:
Ms. Britton is there
anything else you would like
our readers to know about
you and your
work?
Pamela:
Just that I'm truly
honored when someone buys a
book of mine. I appreciate
each and every one of my
readers and so I'd like
to say THANK YOU to all of
them. You truly are blessing
in my life. OH, and to
please drop by my web site
if you have any questions on
writing. I have several
aspiring authors over there
and we're always trading
information on my message
board.

Wendy:
Thank you, Pamela for taking
the time out of your busy
schedule to answer our
questions. I'm eagerly
awaiting the arrival of your
next
book.
